29 September 2013 Last updated at 16:20 BST

Fans of the Brother Cadfael chronicles, or their BBC Radio and ITV adaptations, will know the name of his creator, Ellis Peters.

The woman behind the pseudonym, Edith Pargeter, was born 100 years ago today.

She was the first person to write a genre of crime fiction called "Mystoricals," mysteries based on factual history.

As reporter Faye Peacock found out for BBC Radio Wales, her upbringing in Shropshire was a big influence.
