200 protest over Gypsy site plan at St George, Bodelwyddan
More than 200 people staged a protest on Saturday about plans for a Gypsy and traveller site in Conwy county.
Residents in St George, near Bodelwyddan, are opposing plans at Smithy Layby, off St Asaph Road.
The council has also earmarked a second site at Bangor Road, Conwy, saying it is obliged to provide land for Gypsy and traveller communities. It has started a consultation on the plans.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar called the council's plans flawed.
Councillor Tim Rowlands, chairman of the St George Gypsy Traveller Group, said villagers were opposing the plans on safety grounds due to its proximity to the A55 and the pressure it would put on local services such as additional school places for extra children.
" I just don't think it's the right location," he said.
