Trains running between south Wales and Bristol are facing disruption after the Severn tunnel was closed for safety checks.

Traffic Wales said all lines were blocked between Cardiff Central and Bristol Parkway railway stations.

First Great Western tweeted there were delays and alterations to its services to and from south Wales.

Network Rail said a train had reported running over a metal object in the tunnel.

It said it was currently examining the rail tunnel, which runs underneath the Severn Estuary.
