A Deeside man has been fined £4,000 after a worker fell 40ft (12.1m) from a faulty ladder and died.

Gethin Kirwan, 35, from Chester, was working at a property in Llandudno on 4 April 2013 when he fell from the ladder, suffering a fatal head injury.

Thomas Price, of Pentre, who runs a roofline products' business, was sentenced at Wrexham Magistrates' Court.

He pleaded guilty to breaching health and safety regulations.

Investigators said the ladder, provided by Mr Price, was in a poor state.

Although the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) accepted the ladder was not responsible for Mr Kirwan's fall, it did have a number of serious safety defects which had the potential to cause serious incidents.

Price was also ordered to pay £4,000 in costs.
