Safety cameras will be placed at level crossings to deter motorists from jumping lights and risking high-speed collisions.

Network Rail will place them at four locations in Wales where trains can pass through at speeds of up to 60mph.

They include Ffairfach and Llangadog in Carmarthenshire, Borth Capel Soar in Ceredigion and Fairbourne in Gwynedd.

The cameras will capture images of motorists who breach the barrier lines when the red warning lights are on.

They will use number plate recognition technology and the footage will be used in prosecutions.

Network Rail Wales' risk advisor Christine Booth said safer driving would reduce the risk of fatalities.
