Gwynedd council has given the go-ahead for a two-screen cinema complex to be built in Caernarfon.

The facility will be part of a new three-storey extension to the town's Galeri arts centre.

Owners hope to start work on the building in January 2017, with the new 119-seat and 71-seat cinema space set to open by 2018.

The new extension will also feature retail spaces and offices.

Gwyn Roberts, Galeri's chief executive, said the programme will include the latest releases, and added: "The current arrangements require theatre and cinema events having to share the same space and this restricts programming opportunities for both.

"Having two dedicated screens will free up the main theatre for an extra 90 days every year."
