A teenage boy has died in an incident involving a bus in Powys, say police.

He has been named as Kyle Fawcett, who was from the Welshpool area.

The bus was in collision with the 16-year-old as it left a bus station in Newtown at around 1800 BST on Thursday. His family have been informed.

Dyfed-Powys Police, who have appealed for witnesses, said he was treated by paramedics at the scene, but was pronounced dead later in hospital.

A Tanat Valley Coaches service was travelling into Back Lane bus station when the incident occurred.

The teenager was taken by ambulance, under police escort to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Newtown mayor Joy Jones, whose son Josh, 16, was at the scene when the incident happened, said: "I'm devastated and it's such a waste of a young life.

"My heart goes to the boy's family. My son Josh was at the scene when it happened."

A formal identification is expected to take place later but family have been informed.

Kyle was understood to be a first-year motor vehicle student at the Coleg Powys further education college in Newtown.

Any witnesses should contact Dyfed Powys Police on 101 or their local police station.
