Youths push man into canal at Church Street, Welshpool

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was pushed into a canal in an "unprovoked" attack by a group of youths in Powys.

The man was treated for minor injuries at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital following the incident in Welshpool last Friday night.

Dyfed-Powys Police described the attack as "vicious", and said the behaviour was "unacceptable".

Officers said about eight youths were involved.

The incident happened at about 2145 GMT at the bottom of Church Street car park. Police said they were interested in hearing from any witnesses.

A police spokesman said: "This is an unusual offence for the area. It was a vicious, unprovoked attack on a man.

"This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and specialist resources are assisting local officers with inquiries."
