Police are looking for a weapon used in a stabbing in Newtown, Powys.

Dyfed-Powys Police say the man is in hospital with serious wounds but his injuries are not life-threatening.

It happened at about 2230 BST on Monday at an area known locally as the mound or Alex's hill, at the rear of Lon Maesycoed.

Two people were arrested but released while inquiries continue. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.

"A number of young males were in the area and have been spoken to by officers," said Det Insp Ian Andrews.

"Two men have been arrested and have been released pending further police inquiries.

"We have deployed specialist search dogs to the scene and have been making house-to-house inquiries.

"No weapon has been recovered despite the search that has taken place, but it is believed that a knife was used.

"Anyone who finds such an item that may have been discarded in the area should contact the police immediately."
