An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of 12-year-old boy who died after goalposts fell on him in Powys.

Casey Breese was playing football at a recreation ground in Caersws last Friday when the incident happened.

A post mortem revealed Casey suffered liver trauma and crush injuries.

His family paid tribute to their "lively, energetic lad" in a statement released through Dyfed-Powys police on Tuesday.

Police are continuing to investigate his death at the recreation ground, which is also home to Caersws football club.

Floral tributes have been left at the site, along with a Manchester United shirt.

Det Insp Ian Andrews said the police were working in collaboration with the environmental health department at Powys Council, and a liaison offer from the force is supporting the family.

A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) spokesman said it was "following up with police and local authority officials".
