Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training to make job losses
Some staff are to lose their jobs at a council-run service offering apprenticeships and schemes to help people back into work.
Ceredigion Council said it also intended closing Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training's office in Lampeter after a cut in funding.
The local authority would not confirm the number of redundancies, but it is believed that 17 people are affected.
The public service union Unison said the decision was worrying.
A council spokesman said there would be redundancies at Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training, but said the number could not be confirmed because is was beginning a period of consultation with staff and unions.
"One of the cost-saving measures to help minimise the impact on jobs involves the closure of the Lampeter office," said the spokesman.
Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training is the main provider of apprenticeships in the county together with other programmes to help people back into work.
Union's county branch secretary, Cathy Graham, said 17 job losses was "a very significant number in Ceredigion".
"It is also very worrying that this will lead to less apprenticeships and other training places being offered," she added.
Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training also has offices in Aberystwyth and Cardigan.
