An elderly woman is in a critical but stable condition after she was involved in a crash with three cars in Aberystwyth.

Dyfed-Powys Police were called to the collision in the Trefechan area of the town at about midday on Wednesday.

The incident involved a Skoda Octavia, a Volkswagen Polo and a Rover 400.

The Skoda hit the front door of a terraced house, and its driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The woman was airlifted from the scene to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The road was closed in both directions, and diversions were put in place.

Mid West and Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent one crew to the scene, with officers involved in making the vehicles safe.

Police want to speak to any witness who saw the collision or stopped to help or saw the vehicles before the collision, and who has not yet spoken to officers.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101.
