Ardwyn Nursery and Infants School closed after suspected gas leak

A nursery and infants school in Powys has closed temporarily after a suspected gas leak.

Children were evacuated at Ardwyn Nursery and Infants School in Welshpool on Tuesday morning.

The school was closed for the remainder of the day as a precaution, but is expected to reopen on Wednesday.

Head teacher Yvonne Naylor said: "Gas was smelt by school staff and parents this morning which has been reported to the utilities company."

She added: "As a precaution, the school has been closed until the all clear has been given.

"We anticipate that the school will reopen as normal tomorrow morning."
