An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a teenager at a privately-run school in Powys.

The body of 15 year-old Jordan Kane Woonton, who was originally from Nottinghamshire, was found at the residential Pentwyn School at Clyro near Hay-on-Wye on Monday 18 June.

The home is run by the private company Hillcrest, which is based in Hampshire.

It cares for boys with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and has children from all over the UK.

Hillcrest is holding a full investigation into the death and the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales said it had been notified of the incident.

Roger Colvin, the chief executive of Hillcrest, said at the time of Jordan's death: "It is with deep regret that we confirm the death of a young man at one of our residential special schools.

"We are conducting a full internal investigation and are working with the local police, coroner's office and regulatory bodies to assist with their inquiries."

He added: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends and on behalf of the staff and management we wish to express our sadness at this distressing news."
