Cow destroyed after Welshpool livestock market escape

An escaped cow from Welshpool livestock market has been humanely destroyed.

Dyfed-Powys Police say the animal managed to get some distance along public roads and into a residential area of the mid Wales market town.

It was found in the grounds of a private building in the Gungrog Hill area but could not be caught safely.

Police said the safety of the public and officers had been at risk as well as property following the escape at 09:10 BST on Monday at Buttington.

The livestock market, which opened in November 2009, is situated on the northern outskirts of Welshpool near the junction of the A458 and A483.
