Ystradgynlais flood prevention scheme opened
A £2.6m scheme to reduce the risk of flooding to 228 homes and 12 businesses in Powys is being officially opened.
A new riverbank flood wall has been built in Ystradgynlais to stop water from the River Tawe during heavy rain.
Parts of roads along Heol Giedd, College Row and Pantyffynnon Road have also been replaced and strengthened to provide better flood protection.
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) said the area was at a high risk of flooding. The work was completed in the summer.
Phil Pickersgill, from Natural Resources Wales, said: "Since this scheme has been operational, many people in the area have already benefited from the extra protection it provides, especially during the recent stormy weather.
"The area has been prone to flooding in the past, affecting both homes and businesses, disrupting people's livelihoods and the local economy.
"We can't always prevent flooding from happening, but this new scheme in Ystradgynlais will mean that the community is better protected and better prepared for it."
