Welshpool: Police investigate teenager's home death

Police are investigating the sudden death of a teenager at his home in Powys.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the 16-year-old from the Welshpool area, who has not been named, was found shortly after midnight on Monday.

A statement from Welshpool High School, where the boy was a year 11 pupil, said it learnt the news with "deep sadness and shock".

Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

"We are investigating the sudden death of a 16-year-old boy from the Welshpool area," said Sgt Jon Rees of the Dyfed-Powys force.

"He was found at his home address shortly after midnight this morning, Monday 18 November."

The Welshpool High School statement said: "It was with deep sadness and shock that the school learnt of the tragic death of a year 11 pupil.

"Pupils at the school were told of the death at a series of special assemblies on Monday. The school has provided support for classmates and pupils throughout the school following the news.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the pupil at this very difficult time and we would ask that people respect their privacy."

The Powys coroner has been informed of the death.
