Three hurt in A470 crash near Newtown, Powys

Three people have been taken to hospital following a two-car crash during Tuesday morning's rush hour which closed the A470 in Powys.

One person was airlifted and the others were taken by ambulance from the scene, half a mile outside of Newtown.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews used hydraulic cutting equipment.

The incident happened shortly before 08:00 GMT and the road has now been reopened.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the driver of one of the cars - a Vauxhall Astra - was flown to hospital in Stoke-on-Trent.

The driver of the other car - a Passat - was taken to Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
