Aberystwyth calls for CCTV return after brawl

Appeals have been made for CCTV cameras to be switched back on in a Ceredigion town after a mass brawl led to just one arrest.

Aberystwyth's CCTV network was shut down in April 2014 as a result of council cutbacks.

Town councillor Ceredig Davies said a mass fight in the town centre on 15 April "could have been filmed" if it was still in place.

Ceredigion council said it had "no plans" to reinstate the CCTV.

Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Christopher Salmon said it was "impossible" to say whether CCTV would have made any difference.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and sexual touching after the incident, but has since been bailed pending further inquiries, the force said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
