Man, 47, arrested after murder of woman, 89, in Rhyl

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering an 89-year-old woman at her Denbighshire home.

Florence Habesch was found when police were called to her property in Grange Road, Rhyl, at 0251 GMT on Tuesday.

North Wales Police said a 47-year-old man was arrested in Wolverhampton after a joint operation with the West Midlands force.

Police believe Ms Habesch may have been killed on Sunday, 6 February. A post-mortem examination is taking place.

It is being conducted by Home Office pathologist Brian Rogers at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan.

Earlier on Tuesday, a second house in nearby Brighton Road was being examined by police.

A police family liaison officer has been appointed to support Ms Habesch' family.

North Wales Police are continuing searches and house-to-house inquiries.

Detective Superintendent Wayne Jones, leading the investigation, said: "We offer our sincere condolences to the family at this difficult time."
