Denbigh gets new taxibus service for hilly areas

A new taxibus service is being introduced in Denbigh because local roads are said to be too hilly for many residents to walk.

Denbighshire councillor Sharon Frobisher said the cost of the service, which was introduced following a 2010 consultation, would have be monitored.

The taxibus will serve residents of Accar y Forwyn, Bryn Onnen, Maes yr Eglwys and Bryn Stanley.

The pre-booked service, operated by Vale Taxis, starts on Monday.

It will operate weekdays at 0915 and 1015 BST into Denbigh town centre and local supermarkets, with return journeys at 1010, 1110 and 1210 BST.

"We received a positive response during the recent bus service consultation that a service for parts of Denbigh currently not served would benefit particularly those people who find it difficult to walk," said Ms Frobisher.

"The walk to both the town centre or existing bus is hilly in nature.

"During the summer, we will need to monitor the number of passengers using the service against the cost of providing it. Its continued availability will obviously depend upon usage."
