Child rapist Stephen Rogers jailed for 12 years

Mold Law Courts Judge Merfyn Hughes described Rogers' behaviour as "depraved"

A child rapist who said he wanted to be "put away for a long time" has been jailed for 12 years.

Stephen Rogers, 47, from Rhosllanerchrugog, near Wrexham, admitted various offences, including the rape and attempted rape of a child.

Mold Crown Court heard he had been charged with 28 offences in total, and told police: "When did I turn into a monster?"

Judge Merfyn Hughes called his behaviour "depraved".

The court heard Rogers told police in interview: "When did I turn into a monster?

"Nothing I say will excuse the things I've done.

"I want to be put away for a long time."

Rogers had shown one victim indecent images on a computer and asked if he could do the same to her, the court heard.

Another victim told how Rogers tried to persuade her to have sex.

The judge said that the offences were for his own sexual gratification.

Stephen Edwards, defending, said Rogers was full of remorse.

The judge ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.
