Trinity Mirror has announced Mark Thomas as the new editor of the Daily Post in north Wales.

He succeeds Alison Gow when she moves to the role of editor, digital innovations later this month.

Thomas was a correspondent for the Press Association before returning to newspapers, later becoming the editor of the former Liverpool Post.

Based at Llandudno Junction, the Daily Post is the regional daily paper for north Wales.

"Having covered north Wales as part of my Press Association patch for 14 years, and spent many a happy childhood holiday there, it is a region I have a great deal of affection for," said Thomas.

"Alison Gow is leaving the Daily Post in robust good health, and taking over from her is a big challenge, but one which I know I will relish."
