A paper manufacturer has confirmed that more than 100 jobs will go at its Deeside plant.

UPM said on Friday that one paper machine will be closed at its Shotton facility at the cost of 121 jobs.

The firm, which employs 370 staff at Deeside, has announced 373 job losses across Europe.

The company said: "The measures taken are necessary to improve our operating rates and profitability in the European paper business."

The paper producer first announced it was consulting with staff over possible job losses in November last year.

While one machine in Shotton will close by the end of March, UPM said all of its mills will continue paper production in a reduced capacity.
