A woman was hit in the face with a snooker ball as two teenage boys tried to steal her puppy in Wrexham.

She was walking the St Bernard and a German Shepherd dog in a field off Ruthin Road, Bwlchgwyn, when the boys asked her if they could buy the puppy.

Police said she refused and they attacked her before attempting to flee to a flatbed truck carrying scrap metal at about 16:30 GMT on Friday.

They were stopped from taking the St Bernard by the German Shepherd.

North Wales Police said they were appealing for witnesses to the "vicious assault".

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 55111, quoting crime reference number SO28039.
