Tributes have been paid to Wrexham photographer Les Evans following his death from cancer.

The 74-year-old worked for the Leader newspaper for more than three decades and was a well known face in the town and at Wrexham FC games, taking photos.

His wife, Sheila, told the Leader: "He liked people and people liked him."

Former Wales player Robbie Savage, a BBC pundit, told his 1.5m Twitter followers that Evans was a "fantastic man, fantastic photographer".

In 2009, a giant photograph of Evans was unveiled in the town's Eagles Meadow shopping centre in tribute to "ordinary people with extraordinary qualities".

Wrexham FC said the it was considering a "lasting tribute to Les" at the Racecourse.

Captain Dean Keates said: "He was a great bloke and so much a part of the club during my time."
