A charity is to start recruiting 70 people to work in a new rehabilitation and training centre for blind ex-service men and women in Llandudno.

St Dunstan's says the 40 bedroom unit is due to open in the autumn.

The charity bought the old North Wales Medical Centre which was run as a private hospital in 2008.

It will offer rehabilitation and training for blind and visually impaired ex-service men and women living in north west England and Wales.

The £12m centre has received funding from Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion.

St Dunstan's said it aimed to fill all vacancies by August and is looking to recruit people in care, administration, rehabilitation and training, and facilities positions.

The charity's head of centres Helen Emmerson said: "St Dunstan's is delighted that in addition to giving vital support to blind ex-servicemen and women, our new Llandudno Centre will make a useful contribution to the town and surrounding area.

"We welcome job applicants of any age and from anywhere, but it would be great to be able to employ people who live locally."

It will be holding a recruitment fair for the Centre on 24 May at Llandudno's Venue Cymru.
