Llanfigael country house fire investigation

A fire investigation is under way after a major blaze at a "substantial" country house on Anglesey discovered during the early hours of Sunday.

Firefighters pumped water from a nearby stream to help bring the blaze under control at the private house in Llanfigael, near Holyhead.

Neighbours alerted emergency services at 0338 BST but it was "well alight".

Two North Wales Fire and Rescue crews attended from Holyhead as well as Bangor, Rhosneigr and Llangefni.

An incident command unit from Rhyl was also sent in and firefighters are still at scene at 0900.

A fire service spokeswoman said it appears the house was empty at the time of the fire.

She said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
