Five rescued from Menai Strait as speedboat capsizes

Five people, including a child, have been saved from the water after a speedboat capsized.

The group were picked up in the Menai Strait between Anglesey and the north Wales mainland by other boats.

They were transferred to the Beaumaris lifeboat, whose volunteer lifeboat crew were called out to Gallows Point shortly after 1600 BST on Saturday.

The five, all from Beaumaris, were taken by ambulance to Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital at Bangor for a check-up.

The lifeboat then returned to the scene to help recover the capsized speedboat.
