North Wales Fire Service withdraws trucks over problems

Six new off-road trucks have been withdrawn by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service after one caught fire and problems were found with the doors.

Fuel escaping from the tank was ignited by the exhaust of one vehicle stationed at Llangefni.

An investigation led to the Bremach vehicles being returned to the suppliers for modification by June.

The special vehicles enable firefighters to navigate areas of difficult terrain.

They were stationed at Llangollen, Conwy, Dolgellau, Llangefni, Amlwch and Abergele stations.

Senior operations manager Gary Brandrick said: "Whilst these vehicles are out of action we have been able to bring the 4x4 vehicles they replaced back into operation: this will maintain our capability of gaining access across difficult terrain.

"The service we provide to the public therefore should not be affected."
