Conwy firefighters tackle gorse blaze on Sychnant Pass

Fire crews are continuing to dampen down nearly four acres of gorse land after a blaze in Conwy.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service believe the fire on the Sychnant Pass was started deliberately.

It took four crews from Conwy, Abergele, Llanfairfechan and Llanrwst almost three hours to bring the fire under control on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters remained at the scene to dampen down burning embers within the gorse.

Gwyn Jones, county safety manager for Conwy and Denbighshire, said such fires cause a "drain on resources" and could lead to a costly time delay in responding to other emergencies.

"We have beautiful landscapes which are being spoilt by the ignorant behaviour of a few," he said.

He urged people with information about the incident to call North Wales Police.
