Firefighters tackle blaze at former Jewson site, Bangor

Fire crews have tackled a large blaze at the former Jewson builders merchants in Bangor, Gwynedd.

The disused building was described as being well alight and fire spread through the roof.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to the site in Hirael at 15:48 BST, with four appliances and nearly two dozen firefighters at the scene.

Some roads around the site were closed and the fire was brought under control at about 17:51 BST.

It is not thought anyone was in the building at the time.

Firefighters from Bangor, Llanfairfechan and Beaumaris attended.

A fire investigation officer is due to attend to try and establish the cause of the blaze.
