Canoeist airlifted from Pont Cyfyng waterfalls in Conwy

A canoeist has been airlifted to hospital after he was injured at a waterfall on a river in Conwy.

North Wales Police said the man, who had been canoeing with a group, was injured after he came out of his craft at the Pont Cyfyng Falls.

The canoeist, who had been in the river Llugwy near Capel Curig, did not suffer life threatening injuries.

The fire service, RAF Valley helicopter and the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team were involved in the operation.

Emergency services were alerted at 10.43 BST on Sunday.

The A5 road was closed for a time by police as the casualty was airlifted from the scene to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor by a rescue helicopter from RAF Valley.
