Open days show Gwynt y Môr wind farm plans

A series of public open days has begun in north Wales to tell people about the construction of one of the largest offshore wind farms in Europe.

The Gwynt y Môr scheme will see 160 wind turbines sited about 10 miles (16km) off the coast near Colwyn Bay and Llandudno.

When built, the wind farm is expected to generate enough energy to meet the annual needs of about 400,000 homes.

Offshore construction will take place in Liverpool Bay until 2014.

RWE npower renewables is holding the an open day to show the route of cables between Pensarn and St Asaph at Canolfan Dewi Sant Community Centre, South Parade, Pensarn, Conwy from 14:00 to 19:00 GMT on Monday.

Open days showing the wind farm will then be held between 14:00-19:00 GMT at Colwyn Bay Library, Woodland Road West, Colwyn Bay on Thursday, 1 December; Rhyl Library, Church Street, Rhyl, Denbighshire on Friday, 2 December.

The event at the Arcadia Room, Venue Cymru, Llandudno on Saturday, 3 December, will take place between 10:00 and 15:00 GMT.
