Three men saved by new Snowdonia location marker scheme

A new safety scheme designed to locate people stranded in Snowdonia has helped in the rescue of three men.

The climbers gave a grid reference on a location marker to Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team after becoming lost in bad weather on Cader Idris.

The markers have been positioned on styles and gates around Snowdonia, including on Snowdon itself.

The three men from the Midlands were rescued on Sunday after the alarm was raised at about 17:00 BST.

The rescue team said the three men were lightly equipped and had become disorientated on the summit ridge, having lost the main track in extremely poor conditions.

The group did not have a map, but were able to inform rescuers of their position by locating one of the new markers on Craig Cwm Amarch.
