Bangor five hour siege ends in arrest

A 29-year-old man barricaded himself at a flat in Maesgeirchan, Bangor, on Thursday leading to an operation involving armed police and negotiators.

Officers had gone to the scene at Ffordd Tan Y Bryn after reports of an assault and a disturbance.

Police called in support, including armed officers in riot gear, after the individual refused to leave the flat.

After a five-hour stand-off, the man was finally arrested and taken into custody.

North Wales Police said they carried out a "containment" operation while a specialist negotiator tried to talk to the man who eventually gave himself up.

Supt Pete Newton said: "Supported by our partners in the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Welsh Ambulance Service highly trained resources were quickly deployed to the scene and our objective of protecting the public has been achieved.

"We our grateful to local residents for their understanding and cooperation and I'm happy to say the area has return to normality."
