Body of Dolgellau woman, 82, found in woods

The body of an 82-year-old woman has been found in woods on the outskirts of Dolgellau in Gwynedd, police say.

Emergency services and search volunteers were called out early on Wednesday after reports of a missing person.

The woman's body was found near Coleg Meirion Dwyfor at about 03:30 GMT.

Police said she was local to the area. She has been formally identified and her next of kin informed. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

The coroner has been informed.

Volunteers from Aberdyfi search and rescue team took part in the operation along with police and a water rescue team from North Wales Fire Service.

A search dog eventually located the woman's body.

Aberdyfi search team member Graham O'Hanlon said: "It was a tragic end to the night's work, and all the team's thoughts are very much with the friends and family of the person in question."
