Llanrug death: Bangor University pays tribute to Dr Eilir Morgan
Bangor University has paid tribute to a lecturer who has died in a suspected construction accident in Gwynedd.
Dr Eilir Morgan, 29, from the Ffestiniog area, died following the incident at Llanrug, near Caernarfon, on Monday.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it was investigating the incident which it said involved an excavator at a building near a farm.
The university said Dr Morgan would be "sadly missed".
North Wales Police said officers were called to the scene just after 16:00 BST on Monday.
A force spokesperson said the circumstances of Mr Morgan's death were still being investigated by them and the HSE.
A post-mortem examination has been carried out and the coroner informed.
Bangor University paid tribute to Dr Morgan, a former student who became a lecturer in its school of ocean sciences in January.
"As a both a student and member of staff he was very well-liked and respected by colleagues and students alike," the university said in a statement.
"An enthusiastic and energetic lecturer who was involved in a number of initiatives, he had a very promising academic career in front of him."
"He was amongst the first to win a scholarship under the Centre for Welsh Medium Higher Education and became one of the few to lecture through the medium of Welsh in the field of Ocean Sciences.
"He will be sadly missed by all at the university."
