Penygroes fire: Body found in kitchen

North Wales Police said the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

A body has been found by fire crews tackling a blaze at a terraced house in Gwynedd.

They were called to the property in Ffordd Llanllyfni, Penygroes, at 15:03 BST on Tuesday and found the body in the kitchen.

North Wales Police said the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

Local councillor Dyfed Edwards described the fire as a "blow to the community and the family involved".

"It's a shock when something like this happens at any time, but especially during the day, and the community extend their sympathy and will be offering whatever help they can," he told BBC Radio Cymru.

"The emergency services are there and the police are redirecting traffic.

"It's a scene of a lot of activity, and it's very unusual for this area."

Gwynedd council said the old A487 between the villages of Llanllyfni and Penygroes was closed for a number of hours following the incident.
