Pupils have been left stranded after two school buses failed to turn up.

Dozens were left waiting to be taken to Ysgol Brynrefail in Llanrug, following a "misunderstanding" between bus companies, Gwynedd council said.

Youngsters at stops in Nant Peris, Llanberis and Cwm-y-Glo were affected and had to make their own way to school on Monday morning.

A council spokeswoman said alternative arrangements had been made to take pupils to school on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, a misunderstanding related to the end of the contract with the current transport provider, affecting the home to school service from Nant Peris and Llanberis to Ysgol Brynrefail," said the spokeswoman.

"Once the council was made aware of the problem alternative arrangements were made to collect pupils this morning and new arrangements have now been put in place to resolve the problem.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused this morning."
