Fundraiser in Llan Ffestiniog told 'go back to England'

A charity collector was kicked in the backside and told to "go back to England" while fundraising in Gwynedd.

The victim was a member of a group from Liverpool collecting money for Macmillan Cancer Support in Llan Ffestiniog last September.

They were collecting near the home of 53-year-old Mark Lloyd Griffith, who pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault.

He was given a 12-month community order by magistrates in Dolgellau.

The court heard statements from other group members stating that the defendant shouted to the victim "go back to England we don't want you here" and that "most of the houses in the area were owned by English pigs".

The claims were disputed by Griffith's defence counsel who said he was well liked by his English neighbours and that two of them had been surprised by the allegations.
