A decision over whether a proposed Gypsy and traveller site in Conwy county will go ahead has been delayed.

Residents in St George, near Bodelwyddan, had opposed the plans for Smithy Layby, off St Asaph Road.

Conwy council said a delay in funding meant it could not move forward.

Instead, the authority is to consult with the public and landowners for more sites that could be used for the Gypsy and traveller communities in the county.

Smithy Layby will be among the new pool of locations considered by the council.

More than 200 people protested about the Smithy Layby proposal in January.

Villagers were opposing the plans on safety grounds due to its proximity to the A55. They also say it would put pressure on local services such as school which would need to cater for extra children.
