Investigation after Bangor prisoner found dead in cell

An investigation has been launched after a 25-year-old Welsh inmate was found dead in his prison cell.

Ashley Gill, from Bangor, was found unresponsive at HMP Liverpool on Wednesday and pronounced dead at 18:00 BST.

His death is being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem examination was being carried out on Thursday.

The independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman and Merseyside Police are both investigating.
