Ex-Bangor post office student plans rejected
Proposals to turn a former grade-II listed post office into student accommodation in Bangor, Gwynedd, has been thrown out by planners.
Officers at Gwynedd council had recommended that plans to convert the vacant building in the city centre were approved.
But the county's planning committee said it would be detrimental to the local conservation area.
The plans would have seen 29 student flats in the building.
A further 116 self-contained units would have been built behind the old post office in a five storey building.
Bangor's Civic Society had opposed the proposals, describing parts of the plans as "particularly hideous" and out of character "given the importance of this site in the city landscape".
The former post office buildings have been empty since the collapse of a nightclub venture at the site.
