Bring me the head of Welsh language standards

After approval by the Assembly yesterday the process of appointing the first ever Welsh Language Commissioner officially kicks off today.

The aim is to advertise the post next month and in the Autumn, name the first Commissioner who will regulate, enforce and promote standards around the use of the Welsh language.

We'll have to wait to see the job spec but former Plaid Cymru Culture Minister, Alun Ffred Jones, has spelled out in less than 500 words his own suggestion to tonight's CF99:

"He or she will need the wisdom of Solomon, the patience of Job, the skills of Salome and the chutzpah of King David".

Move over Lord Sugar.

By the way only two AMs voted against the Welsh Language Commissioner (Appointment) Regulations 2011 in the chamber yesterday - both new members.

Turns out that neither one is a rebel.

Julie James, the Labour member for Swansea West was without her glasses and pressed the wrong button, while Russell George, Conservative member for Montgomeryshire 'made a mistake'.

How did Plaid taunt Labour a few weeks ago? "30 seats, five years, none of your members can ever be away - ever."

Add to the list "or forget their specs".
