Remand on 2003 Cardiff murder charge after extradition

A 27-year-old man extradited from Canada to the UK has appeared in court charged with murdering a newly-wed man in Cardiff seven years ago.

It follows the death of Mohammed Musa Mohamoud, 21, from Butetown, Cardiff, in 2003.

Mohamoud Mahad appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court on a charge of murder.

He was remanded into custody and will appear at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday.

In court, Mr Mahad spoke only to confirm his details and when asked to give an address, he told the court: "I don't have one currently."

The case follows the death of Mr Musa, who died of a brain haemorrhage five days after being hit by a dumbbell bar from a weightlifting gym.

An inquest later recorded a verdict that Mr Musa had been unlawfully killed.
