Sophie Evans makes West End stage debut as Dorothy
Sophie Evans, the runner-up in BBC talent show Over the Rainbow, is poised to make her West End stage debut as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.
The Rhondda 18-year-old will appear at the London Palladium every Tuesday.
Lord Lloyd Webber promised her a chance, although Danielle Hope won the BBC TV talent contest to cast Dorothy.
She said: "I've been working towards this day for so long, and I can't wait to step on to that Palladium stage for the first time.
"The production is amazing, everyone is working so hard on it, and it's a fantastic experience to be part of."
As well as Tuesday nights, the performer from Tonypandy will appear at other times during the year, including a week-long run of shows beginning on May 2.
The singer has become a celebrity in her native south Wales as a result of Over the Rainbow.
She has appeared in a series of local festivals and a BBC Wales TV programme commemorating the Tonypandy Riots.
Sophie will combine her stage work as Dorothy with her studies at the Arts Educational School in London.
