Woman, 83, critically hurt in Barry collision with car

An 83-year-old woman is critically ill after a collision with a car in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.

The pedestrian is being treated at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff after the incident on Saturday evening.

It happened at 1823 GMT as a 53-year-old man was driving a grey Volkswagen Passat on to the A4055 Broad Street from Park Avenue.

The woman suffered serious head, back, chest and leg injuries.

The road was closed for two and a half hours while police conducted initial investigations.
