Police probe rugby match assault in Abergavenny

Police have appealed for help from fans at a rugby match as they investigate claims of an assault on a player.

A 23-year-old player from Newport suffered a broken jaw during the game between Abergavenny RFC and Newport High School Old Boys RFC at Bailey Park in Abergavenny.

A man, 33, from Abergavenny has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

He has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The incident happened during the match between the two Swalec Welsh National League Three East sides on Saturday 16 April.

Anyone who was at the match and witnessed an incident is asked to contact Gwent Police on 101 or to call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
