Treforest employee robbed of takings on way to bank

A man was punched and kicked to the ground before being robbed of thousands of pounds of business takings he was carrying to a bank.

Police are appealing for information about the attack at 1230 BST on Lewis Street in Treforest near Pontypridd.

Officers say the 35-year-old employee was transporting the money in a rucksack when he was set upon.

His attacker drove off in a waiting car and South Wales Police said they believed the robbery was planned.

The victim was admitted to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital for treatment to minor injuries that included a cut to his head.

Det Sgt Nick Jenkins said: "We believe this robbery was planned by the person or people responsible.

"We also believe those responsible may have been in the area for some time prior to the incident occurring so appeal to anyone who thinks they may have any information, regardless how insignificant it may seem, to contact us."
